Abstract

The objective of this study is to interpret the educational trips undertaken by Celina Padilha on behalf of Escola Nova (New School) and the National Federation of Education Societies (FNSE). Celina Padilha was a Brazilian educator and feminist who worked in public education in the city of Rio de Janeiro during the Escola Nova movement in Brazil, particularly during the reforms of Fernando de Azevedo and Anísio Teixeira in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1929, together with the FNSE, she made several trips, including to Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazilian cities, which were reported in the national press. Based on the concepts of educational trips in Mignot and Gondra (1997), Mignot (2024, 2017); studies on the educator in Varella (2025) and Dias and Jara (2018), we seek to interpret: How was the FNSE organized? What were its objectives? How did Celina Padilha contribute to the exchange of ideas on the New School? In this way, light is shed on the educator, the FNSE, and its educational practices in favor of the dissemination of the New School.
